Songs for voice and piano Photo of Georgia Lockwood

Georgia Lockwood has been a frequent performer in choirs, musicals and operettas, and has presented numerous recitals throughout Western Washington and Northern California. She studied at San Francisco State University and Western Washington University, and has written several art songs. Lyrics to most of her songs are by the composer. Two of the songs are settings of anonymous statements of Native American philosophies (I Do Not Sleep and Epitaph). Her other works include three pieces for mixed choir and a trio for trumpets.

A Set of Colors

  • Green
  • Yellow Day
  • Colors for War:

Colors for War, first written 23 years ago and revised several years later, is an anti-war rant, sadly now obsolete only in the sense that today's uniforms are different and the weapons more lethal.

Clear Stars at Night:

Written about a time when Lockwood lived on the outskirts of Flagstaff with an unpredictable Malamute with whom she watched the Arizona skies during his brief, volatile life, Clear Stars at Night is the composer's sentimental favorite.

I Do Not Sleep:

The often-seen traditional Native American text I Do Not Sleep was adapted for lyrics to Georgia Lockwood's most recent composition. The composer was moved to see the text used again recently at her step-father's memorial service in December 2007.

The recordings heard above feature Christopher McCafferty, tenor, and Sandy Rawson, piano, performing at the Pleasure for the Ear concert in Seattle on February 8, 2008.
